Recommend to arrange remittance through valid channels
The parliamentary committee asked to encourage expatriates to send money through legal channels to increase remittances. For this reason, they have been asked to take measures to establish a money exchange near their workplace with incentive facilities through the Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment.
These things were said in the meeting of the Standing Committee of the Jatiya Sangsad regarding the Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment Ministry on Tuesday. Committee President Anisul Islam Mahmud presided over the meeting.
Committee members Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment Ministry in-charge Minister Imran Ahmad, Moazzem Hossain Ratan, Mrinal Kanti Das, Pankaj Nath and Habibur Rahman participated in the meeting.
In the meeting, the committee recommended the ministry to send a specific proposal to the Bangladesh Bank and the Ministry of Finance regarding the provision of incentives and other benefits to the expatriates for the facility of sending money through government channels to stop hundi business and increase remittances. At this time, the labor market of Saudi Arabia was also discussed.
Besides, the implementation and progress of the decisions taken in the previous meeting were also discussed in this meeting.
Besides, the committee recommended the ministry to take appropriate steps to reduce the amount of money received by various travel agencies from workers who wish to go to Malaysia.
Secretary of Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment Ministry, Additional Secretary of Finance Department, Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank, Heads of various organizations along with relevant officials of Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment and National Parliament Secretariat were present in the meeting.
