The government aims to export 10 billion dollars


The biggest exhibition of leather industry has started in the capital Dhaka. Under one roof leather goods, machinery, components, chemicals and accessories products are being displayed for buyers and visitors. Foreign investors are now coming to Dhaka to participate in the exhibition. Although this sector is facing controversy on various issues including the creation of environment-friendly factories, this time the leather industry is returning to a positive attitude through the exhibition.



About 200 companies from 10 countries have participated in this exhibition. Mainly through this exhibition, attracting domestic and foreign investment in this sector and showcasing leather products produced in the country to foreigners. The leather industry, which ranks second in exports, is expected to move forward through this exhibition.

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi inaugurated the eighth edition of Leather Tech Bangladesh-2022, the largest leather industry exhibition for three days, at International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in the capital on Wednesday. At that time, the commerce minister said that domestic and foreign investment is needed to advance the leather industry. 100 economic zones are being made in the country.


Besides, a separate leather industry town has been made for this industry in Hemayetpur of Savar. Entrepreneurs are doing finished leather in an environmentally friendly factory there. Bangladesh is doing well on the compliance issue. For this reason, more domestic and foreign investment is needed in this industry. In future leather industry will contribute better than garment industry to our economy.


Work has begun to increase the export earnings of the leather industry from $1 billion to $10-12 billion by 2030. In the current year, the export income of the leather industry has increased by about 30 percent. Meanwhile, around 200 companies from 10 countries including the Council for Leather Exports (CLE) and Indian Footwear Components Manufacturers Association (IFCOMA) pavilions from India are exhibiting leather, leather products and machineries, components, chemicals and accessories in this exhibition.



The exhibition was packed on the first day. The main sponsor of Leathertech Bangladesh-2022 is Leathergoods and Footwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association of Bangladesh. Other sponsors include Bangladesh Finished Leather, Leather Goods and Footwear Exporters Association, Bangladesh Tenors Association and Bangladesh Footwear Manufacturers Association.


Leather Goods and Footwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association of Bangladesh (LFMEAB) President Syed Nasim Manjur said that the purpose of organizing this exhibition is to bring the world's latest technology in the leather industry to Bangladesh. As a result, the existing exporters will increase their capacity and the new ones who want to enter this sector will get all the information about this sector under one roof. If the leather industry is to be strengthened, the supply chain needs to be brought into the country.


They will either stock the raw materials or produce them in the country in the future. Then we will be in good position in the world. He said that due to the corona lockdown in China and Vietnam, their markets are closed. Therefore, the world's famous buyers are now looking at Bangladesh. Which will make our leather sector more promising. Now is the time for Bangladesh to upgrade the leather industry.


As well as increasing production. We don't want cheap production, we want good quality products. ASK Trade and Exhibitions Pvt Ltd director Nanda Gopal K said that the participation of China and Pakistan has steadily decreased due to the travel ban. However, despite the gap of almost 3 years, the participation of machinery suppliers has increased significantly in this year's event. The exhibition will run until Friday, December 9. The exhibition will run from 11 am to 7 pm every day.
