Bangladeshi-origin police officer Taufiq Bakt of the New York Police Department of the United States conducted a daring rescue operation in the subway on November 24 with a colleague. New York City Mayor Eric Adams on November 28 declared the day 'Tawfiq Day' and 'Brunel Victor Day' in recognition of their life-sacrificing contribution.
This achievement of Bangladeshi-born police officer Taufiq Bakt is flooding the village home in Baralekha.
New York Police Department officer Tawfiq Bakht and fellow police officer Brunel Victor risked their lives to rescue a man who had fallen onto the tracks at East 116 Street-Lexington Avenue in Manhattan seconds before entering another train station. Their successful operation saved the man from certain death.
Taufiq Bakt is the son of Belwar Bakt Badal Mia of Barathal village in Baralekha upazila of Baralekha upazila of Moulvibazar district and nephew of Rahim Bakt Musa, an agar-attar trader. He passed SSC with merit in 2013 with GPA-5 from Gangkul Panchgram Adarsh High School of Upazila. Then he moved to America with his family. After studying there, he joined the New York Police Department.
Gangkul Panchgram Adarsh High School Headmaster Ashraf Haider said Taufiq was very talented, humble and pious. In fifth grade and eighth grade, she won scholarships to TalentPool. The whole school is proud of his remarkable success in his career in New York.
A man fell onto the subway tracks on Thursday (November 24), New York City Mayor Eric Adams said in his proclamation on November 28. His life was saved by NYPD Officers Tawfiq Bakht and Brunel Victor without hesitation. As Mayor of New York City, he declared the day as 'Tawfiq Day and Brunel Victor Day' to commemorate the professionalism as well as the humanity displayed by police officers Tawfiq Bakt and Brunel Victor at the risk of their lives.
Taufiq Bakt's uncle Rahim Bakt Musa said that through various national and international print and electronic media in New York, nephew Taufiq and one of his colleagues learned about a daring expedition. On this news, there is a flood of joy among the relatives in the country. His achievement is not only for the family or Baralekha, but it is a matter of great pride and honor for the whole of Bangladesh.
