The traditional zamindari of Tangail Dhanbari is Nawab Manzil
Located between the Bangshai and Bairan rivers, this zamindarbari has a long history. It is believed that during the reign of Mughal Emperor Jahangir, Mughal commanders Ispinjar Khan and Manowar Khan established zamindari in Dhanbari by defeating Dhanpati Singh. The Nawab Palace of Chun-Surki stands tall in its opulence and tradition even today as a witness to history. The zamindarbari gradually became an attractive place for tourists due to its magnificent architecture. So the successors of the Nawab built a picnic spot at the Zamindarbari, which became famous as the Nawab Syed Hasan Ali Royal Resort. The private company Light House Group is in charge of looking after the resort.
Nawab Manzil, locally known as Nawabbari, is an extraordinary zamindari monument located in Dhanbari Upazila of Tangail District. It was built by Nawab Ali Chowdhury and now the successors of Nawab Ali Chowdhury are taking care of this palace and they have also built several cottages here for tourist accommodation. Nawab Hasan Ali Chowdhury, a descendant of Nawab Ali Chowdhury's family, was the Minister of Industries of East Pakistan and was a Member of Parliament of Bangladesh in 1978 after independence. Syeda Ashek Akbar, daughter of Nawab Hasan Ali Chowdhury, was elected Member of Parliament in 1981.
This zamindar clan did not have to leave the country during the war to facilitate the Muslim zamindari system. As powerful as they were during their reign, their influence still exists in the local area. In 1919, Nawab Ali Chowdhury built this zamindar house to invite the then English Lord Ronald. Later, the Nawab welcomed Ronald with a fleet of 30 well-dressed elephants. Today, the zamindars are still in good condition and are being properly cared for and maintained due to their successors living there.
