RAB has arrested the driver of an address transport and his assistant for allegedly threatening to rape a student of Badrunnesa College in the capital with a half pass (half fare) on the bus. They were arrested from Siddhirganj area of Narayanganj on Sunday afternoon. The detainees are Md. Rubel and Mehedi Hasan.

ANM Imran Khan, assistant director of RAB's law and media wing, told Prothom Alo that the bus driver and helper had been arrested. Details will be announced at a press conference at 9 pm.

Earlier, hundreds of students from various educational institutions in the capital, including Begum Badrunnesa Government Women's College, blocked the Bakshibazar junction in the capital demanding half-pass fares for students on public transport. Begum Badrunnesa, a second-year student of Government Women's College, who took part in the protest, told Prothom Alo that a classmate of hers threatened to rape her if one of her classmates wanted to rent a half-pass on a bus carrying address in Shanir Akhra area of Dhaka yesterday. They want justice for this incident. They also demanded the government to fix half pass fare for students in public transport.

Police in riot gear stormed a rally on Sunday, removing hundreds of protesters by truck. Later, when students from other educational institutions went there, the gates were opened. Shortly after 10 am, several hundred students marched to Bakshibazar and blocked the road.

Due to the road blockade of students, traffic from Chankharpul to Bakshibazar and Bakshibazar, Dhaka Education Board and BUET was closed. The students chanted 'We want justice'. They had placards in their hands saying 'Half pass is our right', 'This is the harsh reality of the country, message of rape to match one's rights'.

The students then lifted today's road blockade with a two-point ultimatum to arrest the bus driver's assistant who threatened to rape and fix the half-pass (half) fare. Hundreds of students from different educational institutions of the capital set a time limit of 24 hours to fulfill these two demands after 12 noon on Sunday.

The government has increased bus fares after raising fuel prices. After the increase in bus fares, the transport owners stopped taking half the fare of the students. Students of various institutions started protesting in the capital last Thursday in protest of this.
