Bailey Bridge collapsed with a truck in Tangail
Bailey Bridge with a drum truck filled with sand on the Nakachim of Basail-Tangail road collapsed and fell into the river. The driver was able to get out but his assistant was trapped inside the truck.
The incident took place at Nakachim of Langulia river in Basail upazila around 11:15 am on Sunday.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Basail Police Station Harunur Rashid confirmed the information. The OC said, ‘A drum truck filled with sand was going from Tangail to Basail. When the truck climbs over the Bailey Bridge, across the Langulia River, a portion of the bridge can be reached. In this incident, the truck got stuck on the bridge and part of it fell into the river. The driver of the truck was able to get off, but his assistant was trapped inside the truck. Two units of Basail and Tangail Fire Service are working to rescue him. Since then, communication on that road has been cut off.
Locals said that due to the collapse of the Bailey Bridge on an important road, many people of Basail and Sakhipur upazilas have lost contact with Tangail Sadar. Although there is an alternative road to reach Tangail, a bridge collapsed on October 1. As a result, the people of these areas have fallen into extreme misery.
